Is the smell of hair spray and other chemicals getting to your nose? Have you thought about continuing your education while you are working in the hair salon? You can pursue a different degree in cosmetology while you are still working. You can also get a completely different degree and work your way through college. The first thing you need to do is figure out what you want to do with your life. Working in a salon might be a good way to make money until you get done with something like nursing or accounting. However, you can also go to school to get a business degree so that you can open your own salon. You can set your own hours and charge the prices that you think are fair. Call local colleges to find out which classes you need to take and when the classes are offered so that you can plan around your work schedule. Want to know more?

Do you love styling hair? If so, you may want to consider becoming a cosmotologist. In order to begin a career as a hair stylist, you will want to become an apprentice at a designer salon to gain experience. There are a few things you can do to get started.

1. Graduate from cosmotology school. In order to become liscensed, you must first complete a program. Throughout your training, you’ll learn how to cut and style hair, sanitizing and sterilization techniques, and learn to determine how long different procedures take.Didn’t catch that? <a href='http:// amominredhighheels.com/cameron-diazs-oscar/’>This explains it.

2. Become liscensed. In order to become employed, you’ll be required to pass a state liscensing exam.

3. Go to some salons in your area and ask if they are interested in offering you an apprenticeship. As an apprentice your duties will include sweeping up, shampooing hair, and assisting in hair coloring.

4. Once you’ve completed your apprenticeship, you’ll be ready to work on your own. Many apprenticeships last for approximately one year, and then you may be offered a job as a stylist. However, if you are not offered a job at that salon, you can begin to find a salon that will be a good fit for you.

Interviews are often nerve-wracking experiences for hairstylists hoping to land their dream job in a fabulous salon. Most worry about sounding and looking professional, as well what to bring and how to act during the interview. If this sounds like you, don’t worry. Simply follow these tips and you’re sure to land your dream salon job in no time at all!

1. Appearance
Dress in business casual attire and make sure your hair and make-up look great, but not over done. Smile often and look your interviewer in the eye.

2. Credentials
Bring a fresh copy of your resume, beauty school certificate, and beauty license. Also be prepared to show your driver’s license if asked. It’s also a good idea to have a reference sheet with at least three professional, or personal, contacts.

3. Portfolio
If you have a photo book of hairstyle pictures you’ve taken, bring it with you. Seeing the kind of work you are capable of will give the salon manager a better sense of your individual style.

4. Mannerisms
Take your time speaking, don’t fidget, and sit up straight- just like your mother always told you to!

For more tips, try searching online using key words.

So you’ve decided to follow your dream and become an aesthetician. Perhaps you want to some day own your own spa specializing in skin care, or maybe you just enjoy making people feel beautiful and confident: whatever your eventual goals, the first step is to enter into an aesthetician program.

The good news is that while rigorous and valuable, aesthetician programs are generally not that lengthy. The programs are usually flexible enough to allow for a work schedule in between classes. You can find a quick rundown here If you decide to take the course full time, it will normally be from 4 months to 6 months long. If you decide to do part time, it can take from 9 months to a year. Course time can vary with program as well as focus of study, and many cosmetology programs will allow you to proceed at your own pace. Medical aestheticians will have somewhat more demanding course work, but will also have a wider variety of procedures available to them.

After you have completed your aesthetician program, you will need to be licensed. Licensing requirements vary from state to state and include a licensing exam, and medical aestheticians will have additional requirements and classes that need to be taken.

Three jobs available in a traditional salon include professional hairstylist, nail technician, and salon manager.

The professional hairstylist will cut, color, perm, or style hair. Hairstylists attend cosmetology school to learn their profession. In addition to classes, cosmetology students will gain hands on experience styling customer’s hair as part of the curriculum.

To become a licensed hairstylist, states require students to take a written exam. Once students achieve their license, they are ready to work with customers.

Nail technicians work with artificial nails such as acrylic, gel, fiberglass, and sculptured extensions. Nail technicians also do traditional manicures and pedicures. Some nail technician education programs include courses on anatomy, physiology, sanitation, chemistry, and hygiene.

States require nail technicians to become licensed after graduation from beauty school by passing a written and practical exam.

Salon managers need to know about salesmanship, working with different personalities, new trends, and managing a business. Typical responsibilities include hiring stylists, ordering inventory, handling customer complaints, budgeting, and decorating the salon.

Salon managers must be licensed cosmetologists with experience.

If you are interested in a cosmetology career, check to see if there is a beauty school in your community that will visit with you about their program.

Most beauty salons try to keep up with the latest trends; however, some are better at it than others are. Chain-salons that have locations in many bigger cities are the most up-to-date, as far as cuts and styles go. Small neighborhood salons with older owners, who may also be the lead stylish, generally cater to the needs of their neighborhood population.

Look at the posters in the outside windows, for a clue as to how youthful the salon strives to be. Some clientele shun the trendy styles, preferring instead to stay true to their original styles and products. They know what they like and what looks good on them, so see no reason to change.

Beauty schools try to teach a mixture of both old ways, as well as new methods. Perms, for example, are much the same as ever, wrapping the whole head in perm rods, applying two separate solutions, waiting, and then rinsing. Only the solutions have changed, generally for the better. Chemicals are less harsh, and treatments for manageability are improved.

When enrolled in a beauty school, the student will have a chance to pursue the area they are most interested in, as well as learning the fundamentals to pass the state board exam.
